Advocate Niyamul Haque, a member of the Jatiyatabadi Lawyers' Forum, Moulvibazar Unit, has commented that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has firmly upheld democratic ideals since its inception, with Begum Khaleda Zia serving as a prime example. He issued this statement via a Facebook post ahead of the Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila BNP Council, scheduled for June 22, 2025, which is expected to further invigorate the party's democratic practices.
In his statement, Advocate Niyamul Haque mentioned that despite the party being out of power for nearly two decades, a new wave of joy and enthusiasm is noticeable among BNP activists in Moulvibazar district. He stated that due to the charismatic political leadership and qualities of Jananeta M. Naser Rahman, the worthy successor of the late M. Saifur Rahman and the helmsman of Moulvibazar District BNP, support for the party has not diminished even amidst the oppression and tyranny of the autocratic government and administration.
During difficult times, he has become the political lifeblood and guardian of the activists.
He further informed that Jananeta M. Naser Rahman, with the comprehensive cooperation of the District BNP Convener Committee, worked tirelessly day and night to form committees in 12 unions to democratically complete the Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila Council, achieving visible success in a short period.
Advocate Niyamul Haque emphatically stated that to maintain and embody Jananeta M. Naser Rahman's democratic spirit, BNP activists from all unions must take on a challenging and crucial responsibility in tomorrow's council. According to him, this council will determine how strong the grassroots BNP will become.
"No matter what anyone says, tomorrow's grassroots voters are the driving force of BNP's central leadership," commented Advocate Niyamul Haque. He urged voters to consider certain specific factors when casting their ballots, including:
* Those who faced imprisonment and oppression on the ground during the past autocratic regime.
* Those who do not possess a mentality of exploiting the party for personal gain.
* Those who will consider activists as the driving force of the party.
* Those who, once elected, will work for the welfare of the party and the people of the country, refraining from opportunistic endeavors.
* Those who possess sufficient educational qualifications.
He particularly cautioned that it is crucial to ensure that no 'hybrid' leaders or infiltrators gain positions. Citing the upcoming national elections, he urged that this council be evaluated as a trial of democratic practice, through which accurate information about democratic exercises will reach the public.
Advocate Niyamul Haque concluded his remarks by saying, "Tomorrow's election must prove that the grassroots is the driving force of the party, believing in the creation of capable leaders. Let tomorrow mark the auspicious beginning of your exercise of democratic power and rights."
