5 detained by BGB while entering Bangladesh from India via Sylhet border

Five individuals were arrested by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Saturday as they crossed the Sylhet border into Bangladesh from India.

The 48th Battalion of Sylhet BGB said in a news statement on Saturday night that personnel of the BGB’s Sripur Camp had taken them into custody close to Sylhet border barrier 1279/MP.

Two of the detainees were found carrying both Bangladeshi and Indian ID cards.

During interrogation, they confessed to having travelled to India a few days ago for work purposes.

The detainees have been identified as Md Monir Hossain, 26, Md Sabuj Mia, 28, Md Hekim Ali, 47, Md Ujjal Hossain, 18, Md Salek Nur, 39.

The press release mentioned that the detainees are being handed over to the police for further legal action.
