Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a large amount of smuggled Indian drugs and arrested a suspected trafficker in separate drives along the Chapainawabganj border on Tuesday night.
The arrested man is Alim, 32, son of Khairul Islam from Argara Choksirampur village in Shibganj upazila.
According to BGB officials, the drives were carried out in the Sonamasjid and Chakpara border areas. During the operations, BGB members recovered 427 bottles of Indian psychoactive syrup Escof DX and 3,170 Tensuin tablets.
Lt Col Golam Kibria, commander of the 59th BGB Battalion, said that acting on a tip-off, a patrol team from the Sonamasjid BOP raided the Raghunathpur Hatipara area and arrested Alim with 377 bottles of Escof DX syrup.
In another operation, a patrol team from the Chakpara BOP recovered 50 bottles of Escof DX syrup and 3,170 Tensuin tablets that were left abandoned in the Namochakpara border area.
The arrested man and the seized drugs have been handed over to Shibganj Police Station for further legal action.
