The government has introduced a new QR code-based “Fuel Pass” system in Dhaka on a pilot basis to make fuel distribution more transparent and organized.

The system, developed by the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation under the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, is currently being tested at two filling stations—Trust Filling Station in Tejgaon and Sonar Bangla Filling Station at Asad Gate.

With this system, motorcycle riders can buy fuel by scanning a QR code through a mobile app. It digitally records fuel purchases and helps authorities monitor distribution in real time. The initiative aims to reduce long queues and stop misuse, such as people collecting fuel multiple times.

The Fuel Pass will also be linked with the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority database to verify vehicles and prevent irregularities.

If the trial is successful, the system will be expanded across the country for all types of vehicles. People without smartphones can still use the service by registering online and using printed QR codes.

Officials believe this system will improve transparency, reduce waste, and help manage fuel supply more efficiently.
