Gas Leak Repair Causes Temporary Outage in Parts of Dhaka

A gas supply disruption affected several areas of Dhaka after authorities shut down valves to repair a major pipeline leak. The outage began on Wednesday night and impacted Mohammadpur, Shyamoli, Kalyanpur, Mirpur, and Tejgaon.

According to Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company, the leak occurred in a 12-inch underground gas pipeline on Darussalam Main Road near Mirpur Road. The damage was more serious than expected, which delayed the repair work.

To control the situation, additional valves had to be closed, leading to a wider gas shutdown across multiple areas. Officials said the repair work is now almost complete, and gas supply should return within about an hour.

Residents in the affected areas faced major difficulties, especially with cooking. Many households had no gas since the night and had to rely on alternative options like ovens, dry food, or buying food from outside.

Some people expressed frustration over the lack of prior notice, saying the sudden outage caused unnecessary trouble for families.

A similar incident had happened earlier this year, when a valve explosion caused low gas pressure in several areas of the city, and full supply took hours to restore.
