To protect the safety of its citizens and businesses in Bangladesh, Japanese Ambassador Iwama Kiminori has asked for the army’s assistance.

On Tuesday, he spoke with General Waker-Uz-Zaman, the Chief of Army Staff, about a number of topics pertaining to collaboration with the temporary administration.

“After discussing cooperation with the interim government, Ambassador Iwama asked about the current situation regarding the restoration of law and order, and requested that they ensure security for Japanese nationals and that they provide support for the activities of Japanese nationals and companies in Bangladesh,” the embassy stated on Wednesday.

“Both parties exchanged views on bilateral defence cooperation including the strengthening of defence relations between the two countries.”

The government on Tuesday issued a notification granting executive magistracy powers to commissioned officers of the Bangladesh Army.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued the notification under the directive of the president. Starting from the issuance date, these powers will remain in effect for 60 days across the country.
