Police in Kulaura Upazila, Moulvibazar District, have arrested Sitab Ali (45) on charges of allegedly raping his teenage daughter.

He was apprehended from Purba Shingur village in Boromchal Union of Kulaura Upazila on Tuesday (June 17) night.

Kulaura Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Sudipta Shekhar Bhattacharya confirmed the matter, stating, “Sitab Ali and his wife divorced last year. Since then, his children had been living with their father. Taking advantage of this situation, Sitab Ali had allegedly been sexually assaulting his daughter for a long time.”

Recently, the victim informed her mother about the sexual abuse, leading her mother to file a written complaint with the police. Based on this complaint, and under the overall direction of Moulvibazar Superintendent of Police M.K.H. Jahangir Hossain, police raided Sitab Ali’s home on Tuesday night and apprehended the accused father.

Inspector Bhattacharya further added that a rape case has been filed against Sitab Ali under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. He was sent to jail via court on Wednesday afternoon.
