Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has resigned as the Speaker of Parliament.She presented her resignation letter to President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Monday, according to Bangabhaban authorities.
On August 5, amid a mass uprising, Sheikh Hasina resigned as prime minister and fled the country.
Following this, the president dissolved parliament, and an interim government was sworn in on August 8.
Shirin’s resignation comes 27 days after the fall of Hasina’s government.
Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on April 30, 2013 became the first woman speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad.
At 46, she also became the youngest person to assume the office.
