US–Iran Ceasefire Talks to Be Held in Pakistan Amid Ongoing Tensions

Ceasefire talks between the United States and Iran are set to take place in Islamabad, Pakistan this weekend, as efforts continue to stabilise a fragile truce.

The American delegation will be led by Vice President JD Vance, along with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Iran is expected to send Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will host the talks and may hold separate meetings with both sides before the main discussion begins.

The talks come after a ceasefire was announced earlier this week by US President Donald Trump following six weeks of conflict with Iran. However, tensions are still high in the region.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Netanyahu has pushed for direct talks with Lebanon after heavy attacks there caused significant casualties. Iran has stated it does not want war but will defend its rights, and has warned about possible actions in the important Strait of Hormuz shipping route.

Disagreements remain over whether Lebanon and Iran-backed groups are included in the ceasefire, with different sides holding opposing views.
