Bangladesh welcomed Pahela Baishakh 1433 on April 14 with colorful celebrations across the country. People wore traditional red and white clothes and joined festivities filled with music, culture, and joy.
The day began early at Ramna Batamul with a cultural programme at 6am. Later, the famous Baishakhi Shobhajatra started from the Faculty of Fine Arts at University of Dhaka at 9am. Large crowds gathered to enjoy the event.
The celebrations included colorful masks and large artistic figures like tigers, elephants, and birds, symbolising strength, peace, and hope. This year’s theme focused on harmony and a better future.
Police also took part with a special mounted unit of decorated horses, which attracted many visitors.
Pahela Baishakh has its roots in the time of Akbar, who introduced the Bangla calendar. Over time, it became an important part of Bengali culture, with traditions like Hal Khata marking new beginnings.
Overall, the celebration brought together people from all walks of life, combining tradition, culture, and national unity.
