Tuesday marked the 14th year since her brutal killing, but justice has not yet been served
Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, Adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, has taken responsibility for the education, employment and overall welfare of the family of Felani Khatun, the teenage girl who was killed by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF).
On Tuesday night, Felani’s father Nur Islam, mother Jahanara Begum and younger brother Jahan Uddin visited the adviser’s residence in Dhaka, where he assured them of his support.
This information was confirmed through a post on Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan’s verified Facebook page.
Felani Khatun’s younger brother, Jahan Uddin, shared with media: “We met Asif Bhai last (Tuesday) night. He assured us that he would help us complete our education and provide us with jobs. He also assured us of proper justice for my sister’s murder.”
Felani, the eldest daughter of Nur Islam and Jahanara Begum from Kolonitari village in Ramkhana Union, Nagashwari Upazila, was shot dead by the BSF on January 7, 2011, when she was 14 years old.

Felani’s father, Nur Islam, said: “For 14 years, the Awami League government has promised justice for my daughter’s murder, but no justice has been delivered. I have applied to the government countless times for justice, but I have not received any.”
He further said: “Last (Tuesday) night, I met Adviser Asif Mahmud, who assured me that he would ensure proper justice for my daughter’s murder. He has also taken responsibility for my family. We are grateful to this government.”
