In an effort to preserve the judiciary’s independence, Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed has declared intentions to create a distinct secretariat.

Almost two thousand judges attended the chief justice’s speech on Saturday morning in the inner garden of the Supreme Court, when he addressed judges from lower courts around the nation and laid out the roadmap for the judiciary.

Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed stated, “We have sought the government’s cooperation to ensure judicial independence.”

“A separate secretariat for the judiciary will be established, which will operate under the Supreme Court. Additionally, a separate policy will be formulated for the appointment of judges, and rules for appointing judges to the Supreme Court should be introduced,” he added.

The event also featured speeches from Legal Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul and Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman.

Judges from the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court, as well as Chief Justice Shah Abu Naeem Mominur Rahman and members of the Judicial Reform Committee, were present.
